Sculpted from Practice

This environment started as a sculpting practice with ZBrush to get more comfortable with the software. I was having a lot of fun sculpting details into a wall and a column, and came up with the idea of a simple ancient environment based on the practice material that I was using.

I researched and collected photos of ancient temples to use as inspiration for the environment as well as what kind of asset will be needed. Fortunately, almost every asset end up being modular (6 in total), which allowed me to use copies of them by duplicating them and place them as I preferred. The column was the easiest one to play with because I had four sides to use by rotating them.

The obvious non-modular asset is the tree, which was my biggest challenge to date due to its organic nature. It was created multiple times and the more I created it, the more practice I had so I end up feeling comfortable working with it until I was satisfied with the result.

Lastly, I was aiming for humid tone but I didn’t like how the color combination looked with the color of the textures. I went back to the reference photos that I had collected and some of them inspired me to setup the world properties to look like it does now.
